What do you think of philosophical objectivism?
To some extent, it has been tested in the US economy under Greenspan and company and results proved that markets have not done the expected job of self-regulation too well. The theory is nice and convincing on some levels, but there is fair analogy between society and an individual body. These are very complex systems that ideally self-regulate, but sometimes the body gets sick and may suffer collapse without extraordinary treatment. Of course both individuals and societies do eventually suffer catastrophic failure and perish! The question is one of how much regulatory intervention is good, and precisely what kind. A body's weakest sector may destroy the whole, but sometimes medication is bungled also and kills the patient.
