i don't know much about the literary industry or publishing, but as an avid book reader, i am sickened by how corporate and commercial books have become in the past decade. everything is tied in to television series or movies or product placement. there's no such thing as "a good book" anymore; it's all about how "commercially viable" the book and author are. take twilight for an obvious example. one of the most poorly-written novels EVER published, yet it has sold millions of copies simply because the executives who published it knew they could shove it down the throats of the teenaged masses, who would buy it and the movie without question because THEY WERE TOLD TO. it's disgusting, and the media is to blame, because they are the ones who get paid by the publishers to hype it up on tv and in the papers. i think if this richard perez guy wants to martyr himself in the name of good literature, then he has my support, even though i personally who never read a book like permanent obscurity. however i highly doubt that one man has the ability to change the corporate machine that presently dominates our culture. he would need some powerful lawyers and a whole lot of publicity as well.

Sony Vegas won't open?

When I try to start sony vegas up and try to run as administrator, the usual loading screen will pop up. Okay I am hoping to come a novelist in my later youth, though after I am done with college I am hoping to come a Journalist for a magazine, making my way up from there. Lockers are easy to get used to.. Took me a week to figure It out but a bunch of other people are new to middle school too so you won't be the only one adjusting.. I'm almost positive you'll find someone nice to help..& changing infront other people may be hard for some.. At first I would say weAr your PE uniform under your school uniform if you go to a school with a uniform dress code.. Trust me these people you'll be with will be new too with the same insecurities... Eventually these people will be your close friends and it won't matter..-being athletic important at your age.. Try to get more active and maybe start running.. -your old friends from elementary school will still stay in touch If they are true.. Meeting new people may be scary but trust me.. They will turn into your bestfriends . And teasing: keep your head up.. The older kids go for the weakest... How will writing 5 books before application to college help in long run?

Are they published by a respectable publisher? If they aren't they won't help you. Anybody can write a novel and say they wrote it, but if they aren't published it won't matter, because the college admission people aren't going to read them, or even look at them. Cannot boot off external hdd?

I have an acer aspire 5336. The oem harddrive is destroyed but I have an external USB hdd. I have a windows xp install cd and have successfully installed xp on my external hdd but when it boots it shows the windows starting screen for about 3 seconds then blue screens stop:0x0000007B (0xF78A2528, 0xC0000034, 0x00000000, 0x00000000). I was reading on some forums about this and found out it was caused by window reinitializing all USB devices so it crashes. How can I change myself?

I'm 16 and have been bullied throughout my life for being different. Also my family is kind of poor and I do not have the things that the more popular girls adore. At my present school I was a late starter (because I was physically very badly bullied at my previously) and although people were nice to me at first, a vicious rumor was spread by someone (apparently i slept with her 'popular' boyfriend) and the entire year will have nothing to do with me now. Someone once filled my locker with condoms (some used) I am always partner less in games (when i do get paired up, i get baseballs and other things thrown at me), people steal my things and I've taken to eating lunch in the bathroom as people chuck food at me. I've never had any friends and am an only child.Most recently, i accepted an invitation from one of the more popular boys in school to prom (apparently he thought i should have a good time for once), turns out he did this to make fun of me as he already had a date and told the rest of the year about it. That day i stood alone in the corner of the room for half an hour, after this I left the school for the quiet of the grounds were i sat for the rest of the evening. Later i was greeted by people honking and laughing at me through their cars (I had to walk home). My grades are poor no mater how hard I try and I am always very ill which again people make fun of me about-and i may have to retake the year. I think that something must be really wrong with me for this bullying cycle to happen continually. How can i become cool/at least normal so that people will at least respect me as a normal Human for once? =(

Why do i have mood swings sometimes?

Though I didn't know it at the time, I would say the first sign(s) of my mental issues were in 11th grade, I was very annoying and sometimes I was hyper and it was like I couldn't sit still (but I don't think I had/have add/adhd as I could focus really good in school), and sometimes I would cause myself pain by hitting my arm against lockers (which was in a way that it was annoying to many), and I would also sit in a way that one side of my chest was on the desk; and it hurt but I loved it. Then in 12th grade I had become depressed and for a while I just couldn't be happy; this is when I started cutting myself. after a while in addition to the depression, anxiety, and cutting I had mood swings from depressed to manic; or at least I think they were manic spells, usually I would have a lot energy and want to do so much anywhere from for a few minutes to a few days, and eventually id go back to depressed and would struggle to get out of bed (I think I may be bipolar sometimes, but ive been getting help and Idk what my diagnosis is). I also wouldn't hesitate to get physically when middle school kids when I was in high school (they used the same busses). I think I still have some degree of mood swings, though I feel stable now. So why do I have mood swings?

Is my hard drive terminal?

I took the hard drive from my old mac laptop and put it in an external hard drive case. I managed to copy some files off it (onto my new mac) before getting an error msg and the case's icon disappearing from my desktop. Maybe the male character will like her breasts, but the way he describes them will change the entire impression. Saying "she had beautiful soft womanly curves" isn't the same as saying "she was a busty redhead."

Can anyone help with Windows 95 in VirtualBox?

I would download an actual windows 95 cd image or iso, just google it and I'm sure you'll find one to download. I would then create a new virtual machine and select windows 95, I think there is an option to chose a cd iso to mount as you go through the wizard, if not, then after your done just mount the CD in the virtual drive in virtual box (under settings-->storage). Boot up the virtual machine and go through the setup process. After that it should all be installed and run pretty decently (if it doesn't, try increasing the maximum ram avaliable)

1989 Ford F150 transmission won't shift?

When in Drive (automatic), the truck won't shift into a higher gear. I pulled the vacuum line from the modulator valve and didn't see any fluid so I think the modulator valve is okay but not sure. It seems like there is a "sucking" sound coming from the engine. I'm wondering if the vacuum line that attaches to the Intake manifold is leaking but I can't tell how it attaches (hard to see from top and bottom of truck). You will probably need: pencil case with pencil pen rubber ruler and maybe some coloured pencil crayons. Also I keep a diary to keep track of my homework but we get one from the school every year so it's really handy;) I also have a key for my locker but you might have combinations but if not I put loads of nice keyrings on it;) also you might want some nice folders to keep all your work in like binders;) hope I helped

B&A Novelists: Have you thought of a title for your novel yet...or even a "working title"?

Since I never intend on having any of my stories published (although someday I might write in a slightly different genre and possibly pursue publishing... anyway...) I never really take the time to come up with titles for my stories. The two long ones I've finished still haven't really been long enough to be novels either, although the one I'm currently working on is shaping up to be a giant. For organizational purposes, aka Microsoft Word save prompt, I title them with the name of my MC and then whatever villain/organization she happens to be battling in that particular story. My current story is simply titled "Ziva vs. Dasaro" -- he's the main antagonist who framed her for an assassination. The last one I finished was "Ziva vs. Dakiti" -- it was the location of a research facility that was experimenting on and killing members of her species (and yes I have a terrible habit of making all of my bad-guy-related stuff start with the letter D). I've played around with real titles before but I've never been able to come up with anything that really works. I've realized that my stories don't really have a central theme to them, which is what titles are usually related to -- if there is a theme, I have yet to figure it out.

back in feb. we were in class and this kid started getting mouthy with me. I have a friend who is very very sensitive and will blow up at you if you tell her you can't hang out because you're going to see a movie or something with someone else. I was hanging out with someone I know and we called my friend to ask if she wanted skype. She got so upset that we were hanging out without her that she said "Never call me again. What is the best way to become a novelist?

Just write heaps of novels and submit as many as you can! Most likely you won't get published on your first try, and if that's all you're trying for, then you should forget it. But just keep writing. And write things you would read. Perfect it - edit, read, reread, check grammar, sentences, everything - and then submit it. And then hope for the best. You can't just learn to be a writer. You can learn to construct stories, etc., but you can't learn to write, if that makes sense.

Can novelists claim benefits such as jobseekers allowance?

I'm hoping to be a writer one day. But my brother told me that if any of my work gets printed, I will never be able to claim unemployment benefits because, even if one book sells a month, it would be still classed as income (even though its pittance). I'm afraid of going into high school?

Coming out of freshman year i had 5 hours of HW per night. Don't worry, my school is the only one where anything like that happens. Most of my Honors friends in public school only got an hour or 2 per night. Also, in terms of finding things, teachers are really lenient on the first few days and don't care if you're late. For many kids it's the same thing as middle school except with a slightly heavier workload. Good luck in HS.

Cant complete xp install?

ok well my hdd with windows 7 crashed so i got a new hdd. I initialized it and formatted to ntfs and its now online. i did this via sata docking station on a different pc. But anyways, when i put the xp disk in my pc, along with the hdd, windows setup cant find my hdd. But doing the same setup on a different pc, i can select my new hdd on the docking station and copy the install files to it, but when it gets to the point where you can restart it, it gives me a bsod with stop code 0x0000007b, so idk what to do. ive tried everything, any ideas? thanks

Worry about getting it published and so on later, just focus on the writing at the moment. Problem initialising a hard drive?

ok well something went wrong with the boot on my hard drive, its only a 250 gig so i just went out and bought a tb. I need to initialise it but it obviously wont recognise it from windows install. i have a laptop i can hook a usb to sata dock to but im wondering if that will work. I was talking to someone the other day and I'm fully aware that there are co-ed dorms at many colleges (I'm currently at community college) but someone was telling me that there's co-ed bathrooms at their college! Like toilet, sinks, showers type of bathrooms...was this for real? it seems like a lot of guys at my school wear athletic shorts for underwear during winter - they dont take of their pants and during the locker room you can tell that they have no underwear under their shorts. also, during summer, it seems like guys wear athletic shorts under boardshorts or two layers if athletic trunks as swim trunks. is that normal?

I agree with the first answer for sure...but definitely just write away. Let your mind wander-sometimes the best ideas come to me when I'm doing nothing else. Can someone help me figure out wtf happened?

So when I began middle school there was a cute boy named Noah that rode my bus every day. He was in a grade above me and over time we became great friends. When I hit 7th grade (he was in 8th) and we really liked each other. He sat on the bus with me, waited by my locker after school, said hi and talked to me whenever he could... then Noah finally asked if I would be his girlfriend. I said no though, that I only wanted to be friends (cause my dad's protective and won't let me date) . Even after that we still talked and stuff... then everything just stopped. Noah ignored me completely for months. I attempted to get him to tell me WHY? Why was he ignoring me? Over Facebook one day he told me he was sorry to have done me that way, I said it was okay, but it really left me scarred, Especially when I had my drunk mother to deal with (he knew this) . Noah's wierd actions cause me to spiral deeper into depression, until finally, after trying to form some sort of conversation and failing, I agreed to silence. After a few months, my mom and I were reunited and everything was okay. Except for 'him'. To clean up some unwanted dust, I attended his graduation from the middle school and congragulated him. As soon as he saw me he frowned, though he just responded "Hm, thanks." in a dull, uncaring voice. WTF HAPPENED? After two years of being best friends, Noah left me in the dust at the hardest time in my life.

Why Shouldn't I kill myself?

I'm 15 years old. I'm not what people call the "coolest" kid. I'm not very cute, I'm not very skinny, I'm not very tall, and I don't have very many friends. I'm shy, and believe me I have gotten out there and tried to make friends. I'm just naturally just not likable. I'm always lonely, I never have anyone to talk to or text. I'm bullied everyday at school. I get pushed into the lockers and things thrown at me, and nobody not even one person sticks up for me. Even one guy who said he was my friend laughed and joined in with the bullying. I'm depressed, have OCD, ADD, ADHD, and have a anxiety problem. I've literally cried to many times that it led me to thinking about killing myself everyday. I literally just want to cut myself or hang myself. I have a talent, but people tell me its not going to happen, because nobody will accept me. The past few months, I've been doing bad things, vandalizing peoples houses, smoking, drinking, and trying not to care what people think about me, but it never works. Give me a few good reasons why I shouldn't kill myself.

Please get it in your head once and for all that we believe it is a baby...life....from the moment of conception. We will never change. We believe abortion is MURDER. Abortion doctors are committing acts of MURDER. Planned Parenthood is an OBRTUARY to slaughter innocent children not much different than the gas chambers of the holocaust. Something wrong with my computer?

Well when I start up my computer, the screen stays black after its done loading. An error bar pops up saying The application 0xc0000005 failed to initialize properly press OK to terminate the program. When I click OK, the same bar pops up. It happens 2 more times. Then the screen stays completely black, with only my cursor showing. On the upper left corner of the bar, the name changes from service.exe to lsass.exe after I press OK. Safe Mode with networking doesn't work either, the same bar pops up still. I have Windows XP Service Pack 2. PLEASE HELP!!!!

I have extracted the files from there and it shows a Microsoft word application. but when i go to open it it says that publisher cannot be verified. In the Mavs game.. He seem like he didn't care. He didn't choke he was just sloppy for no reason. When the 4th quarter ended and the Mavs won he just hurried up and went to the locker room. Wade was just looking real mad with chalmers walking off the court and chris bosh was walking to the locker room crying and almost fell out (haha). In my own opinion, no. I say no because so many people, Christians included, don't realize or downplay just what a demon is. It is a spiritual being and attacks people on a spiritual level. They don't hiss and spit at you, rather break you down mentally. People should have a basic understanding of what demons really are and how they can overcome them. So no, it's not sinister.

Marian, there are published who visit this section from time to time. I'm published if being paid for fiction, non fiction and poetry and having it appear online or in print counts, and my work has appeared in anthologies, but suspect that isn't really what you are looking for. A good place to start would be to investigate whether there are any writers who live in your area and if they would be willing to talk to you. Your local library may be able to help you with this. (I know my local one has a section devoted to local authors and they sometimes offer writing classes.) Otherwise, is there a writers centre in your area? If so, they may be able to put you in touch with an author. Alternatively, consider contacting one of your favourite authors via their website or blog.

Tolkien, in some ways. I know it's contradicting when I say that I love his works but it took me forever and a day to get through Children of Hurin - maybe it's because most of it was put together, actually typed up and edited by his son, so different styles of writing. In that case, it's Christopher Tolkien's work that I can't get through easily. Got through the novel though. Brilliant work.

Please Help with Lsass.exe application error! Nothing works!?

Hello, I tried to boot up my laptop today and got this "lsass.exe application error - The application failed to initialize properly (0Xc0000005). Click OK to terminate the application." I am pretty sure it is the Lsass.exe error and not the isass.exe error, but I am not 100%, the lowercase L and capital i seem the same to me. Anyway, I tried booting in Safe Mode, in Safe Mode with Command Prompt, and tried opening Task Manager like every other answer on this site and Google said to. However, I cannot even get to Task Manager! All my laptop does it pop up the error and revert back to the old original windows background from when I bought the computer (not even my current desktop image), The screen is like this for hours! Ctrl+ALT+DEL does not work, CTRL+Shfit+Esc does not work. I do not know how to run a registry cleaner or antivirus from my USB drive or SD Card without the start program! I do not even know how to run them from Task Manager. I cannot even GET to Task Manager! I tried putting a registry cleaner into my USB drive, but how do I load my USB drive from nothing? How do I even load it from Task Manager? (assuming I can even get Task Manager to ever work again). I cannot load the Windowx CD because it is a LAPTOP and has NO CD PORT! Please help! I've been to YouTube, Google, Yahoo answers, Microsoft.com, nothing helps! Nothing covers my error.
