Does he really like me?

He asked me to homecoming and I wasn't ready so I said I wasn't gonna go. I later then asked him to tolo and he said he wasn't gonna go. He always gives me eye smiles and such. When we were in the same class, we talked alot. And I started to fall for him. But then I had to transfer out of the class, and I saw him go to this girl's locker everytime after class, so I figured he likes her and decided to not like him. Anyways, we didnt talk much after that. And recently on facebook, we started messaging. And he said he fell in love with me the first time he saw me but was too shy and was gonna ask me out and all these other things like how i was everything he looks for in a girl. Should I really believe all that he's saying? Would guys lie like that? He seems player-ish and girls find him hot. Plus, he's one of those guys that has most facebook friends are all pretty profile pic girls!
