I would really like to become an author, where do I begin?

Just write and read. Those are the two main things. But it takes a long time and hard work, but it's so rewarding in the end. Worry about getting it published and so on later, just focus on the writing at the moment. But in my opinion, you should stay on at school, don't leave so early, it just narrows your career path in future.
